While you are trolling the shorelines and the depths, Quickdraw Contours mapping software creates HD fishing maps of the places you’ve been. Some really nice sonar units out there but this really fits the bill for me. Just need a second power cord and base plate and quick swap. I will probably mount the CV ducer to the trolling motor so I can capitalize on that feature come spring. Since the CV version was used from a boater I put it on a blue genz box and it works slick. It just depends how and where I am fishing which way I go. I really like the A Scope feature but I find myself using the flasher feature more when shallow water fishing. They work great but the GT10HN is a beast that I plan on using for deep water to isolate the lakers from the bottom but under 10 feet that thing is just so narrow you can actually jig your lure outside the sonar cone at 10ft so a fish would be right on you before you would see it. I got the GT8HW-IF for the ice bundle one and the CV one I got the GT10HN-IF which is a beast. I got the striker 4 ice bundle kit last year and it was so good for me that I ended up buying a used striker 4CV that I found pretty cheap. I use mine for both ice fishing and on my 14ft alumacraft duri I still cant believe its priced at around $100. Transition from boat to ice and vice versa only takes a few minutes as well, so IMO, this is the best unit you can buy for both hard and open water. I cant remember if the mount came with it, but I don't think it did. This unit also is perfect for small boat/kayak fishing as well. That way the ducer sits flat and can be adjusted if necessary. This makes it a tad tricky for getting the bottom of the ducer completely flat when its sitting in the ice hole, but I've fixed that by tying some fishing line between the mounting holes above the cable. Plus, the ducer that comes with the unit is designed for open water mounted scenarios. The unit comes with a blue styrofoam tube to put around the transducer cable for ice fishing applications, but I've never used it. It also has GPS, although it does not have maps - just points on a blank screen, so I guess that's one of the negatives but I mark my spots on my phone using a different app anyway. Personally, I like to use the traditional sonar with the A-scope enabled instead of the flasher while ice fishing, but to each their own. The 200hz chirp sonar is crystal clear, multiple color, zoom, and gain settings, and it does have a flasher setting that is just as good as some of the other brand flashers. I've had mine for almost 10 years and the only thing I've had to replace was the battery (once).įor ice fishing, this thing has everything you could possibly need. Extremely well, especially for the money.
